The challenge.

Dockside were instructed to brand, launch and let this small commercial development. Utilising shipping containers to offer affordable storage and office/work space to start-ups and SME’s is not a new concept but this was the first scheme of its type in the Medway region. This was the developers first such project and there were facility issues that needed to be addressed as the site started to reach capacity. The ground surface needed desperate attention and due to the current drain as the tenants began occupation, the electrical supply and infrastructure needed to be upgraded.

Our solution.

Box City was initially set up with a 50/50 split between workspace units and storage boxes. We reached out to local business groups on Facebook and LinkedIn. Two things became apparent almost at launch; our primary users would be creatives and those in the beauty industry and the workspace units demand was over-subscribed whereas there was little interest in the storage units.

The result.

All workspace units were filled within 3 months. Presenting our findings to our client, we recommended the storage units were converted into worskpaces. This was completed and those units were subsequently let.
